iPhoto Mailer Patcher is a hack for Apple iPhoto. iPhoto 1.1.1 brings the ability to send pictures directly from the application. Unfortunately, it only works with Apple Mail, which is part of Mac OS X. iPhoto Mailer Patcher enables iPhoto to send e-mail with Entourage, Eudora, Mailsmith, PowerMail or QuickMail Pro.

Shredder is a native MacOSX application for shredding files and folders. Files are overwritten 24 times by alternating 0s, 1s and psuedorandom data(8 passes of each) and then deleted. This technique is based on the standard outlined in US Department of Defense Manual 5220.22 M.

Apple Reports First Quarter Results (

Apple has posted a net loss of $8 million, or $.02 per share. These results compare to a net profit of $38 million, or $.11 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Revenues for the quarter were $1.47 billion, up 7 percent from the year-ago quarter, and gross margins were 27.6 percent, down from 30.7 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 43 percent of the quarter?s revenues.
The quarter?s results included a $17 million after-tax restructuring charge and a $2 million after-tax accounting transition adjustment. Excluding these non-recurring items, the Company?s net profit for the quarter would have been $11 million, or $.03 per share.

Steve Jobs released a number of new products at the MacWorld San Francisco keynote this morning. Here is a summary:
- Final Cut Express is similar to Final Cut Pro but fewer features and more affordable, $299.
- iLife applications include a new version of iTunes, iPhoto 2, iMovie 3 and iDVD 3. All are fully integrated. All free but iDVD or buy them all for $49.
- Safari is a new Apple web browser, very fast and based on open standards. Download beta for free.
- Keynote is a new presentation application built for Steve Jobs and available to everyone else. $99.
- PowerBook G4, 17", 1GHz, Firewire 2, Bluetooth, keyboard glows as light goes down. $3299.
- PowerBook G4, 12", 856MHz, Firewire 2, Bluetooth. $1799.
- Airport Extreme, 54 Mbps, 802.11g, USB port for printer sharing. $199.
PHP Install 1.0 (

This is an
unofficial PHP 4.3.0 install .command file. The command file is based on phpmac.com instructions for how to install php. The command does everything from configuring it to building a test page and restarting apache for you. This is prefect if you have been having problems installing php.

ChimeX allows you to customize alerts for the hour, half hour, and quarter hour. You may have the computer speak the time, play a sound file of your choice, play the standard alert sound, do nothing, or pick a folder and let your Mac pick the sound for you.

News.com article on a rumored new Apple device to be launched at MacWorld this week. They say the device will come with 802.11g and Bluetooth wireless capabilities and serve to make the Mac a more appealing "digital hub" than Windows XP PCs.

Fees for iApp Upgrades (

News.com article states that Apple is considering charging fees for upgrades to their iApps such as iDVD, iPhoto and iMove in one bundle. While the article states that they were previously free, it is not entirely true as iDVD 2.0 had a fee to upgrade.

Little Snitch 1.0 (

Little Snitch runs in the background and hooks into the operating system kernel while you are logged in. When an application tries to establish a network connection, Little Snitch intercepts the attempt and brings up an alert panel, telling you all the connection details including the name of the application which initiated the connection.
