Apple's new PowerBooks are lighter (5.9 lbs.), have a longer battery life (Apple says 5 hours), and are also faster than the current offerings. Prices start a $2499 for a 333MHz model. A fully-loaded 400MHz model with a DVD drive will run $3499.


This year's WWDC had a 43% increase in attendance over last year. Over 3000 new Mac apps have shipped since the iMac was introduced just over a year ago.

The major new announcement regarding the upcoming Mac OS X is that the underlying graphics engine (called Quartz) is based on Adobe's PDF format. The Quartz engine, which also borrows from Pixar and NeXT technology, supports a variety of advanced graphic effects natively.

Web Objects 4.0 was named the Software Product of the Year.

Taylor Design released of List Pad 1.3, an update to the premier Mac OS list manager. List Pad 1.3 is $19 and can be registered via Web, E-mail, FAX, and postal mail.
